Glover Quin will be a difference maker for Lions
Glover Quin has been over looked and under valued after the focus put on Dashon Goldson this off-season.
The Lions needed help in the secondary and Glover Quin is the perfect addition as well as an upgrade.
Drafted by the Houston Texans in the 4th round of the 2009 NFL Draft, he initially played cornerback for the Texans as he did in college at the University of New Mexico.
Per NFL.com, he started 12 of 15 games for the Texans in his first year, when the Texans decided to move him to free safety. Since the move, he has been a constant figurehead starting all 48 games in his last three seasons.
His strength of staying healthy is an invaluable trait in today’s NFL. He also gives a team the option of placing him at corner or safety as the ball-hawk has deflected 48 passes in his first four seasons.
Quin anchored the Texans secondary and according to Pro Football Focus he was 11th in run stops which resulted into offensive failure, 9th in the league in quarterback hurries as a blitzer and second in the league in passes defensed.
He has experience of playing both with a 3-4 and 4-3 defense and at only 27 years-old is a solid signing for a team with needs like the Detroit Lions.
Pro Football Focus ranked Quin as the fifth best safety free agent, while NFL.com has him in the top-tier.
I agree… he was my favorite offseason signing. Steps in as leader if Delmas misses time, and certainly has the experience to be an additional DB leader back there. IMO, this signing will pay as much or more dividends on the defensive side of the ball, as the Bush signing may on the offense.
